SCRIPT
Memory care in the United States currently costs $10,000 to $14,000 per month on average. That number is not a typo.
Three years of memory care at $12,000 per month is $432,000. Add the other spouse's living expenses during that same period and a couple that had $600,000 saved can exit that three-year window with very little left.
Medicare does not cover custodial long-term care. It covers short-term skilled nursing care after a hospital stay, and only as long as you are receiving skilled medical treatment. The moment you just need help with eating, dressing, and basic daily activities, Medicare stops. That transition can happen within weeks.
Medicaid does cover long-term care, but you typically have to spend down most of your assets to qualify. For a single individual, most states require you to be down to approximately $2,000 before Medicaid begins paying.
This is the retirement risk that wipes out more families than market crashes, and most people never plan for it.

PRODUCTION NOTES
Sobering but not fearful. The numbers in the opening are the hook and they are real. Deliver them clearly and let them land.
